COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Stark County has a busy lineup of community events this week, including a car show at Beach City Community Park on July 19, a Bon Jovi tribute concert at St. Helena Heritage Park on July 18, and a Christmas in July Soup at McKinley Presidential Library & Museum on July 24—other activities include a kids movie at the Palace today, dinner theatre in Canton Twp, music concerts in Massillon, car shows and dog adoption in North Canton, plus outdoor film and concert series, with varying fees and registration deadlines.  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Greater Stark County Urban League and 717 Credit Union introduced an Affinity Urban League credit card—part of each purchase will be reinvested into community programs—that has no annual fee and an APR of 7.17% to 22.99%, announced on June 20. Several Stark County businesses held ribbon-cutting events—US Prosthetix, First Federal Community Bank, and Seniors Helping Seniors opened new locations—while Liberty HealthShare earned a four-star rating, Van Nostran Young Coutts Insurance received an Agency Excellence Award, and Timken named Timothy Graham president of Industrial Motion.  The Repository

CRIME NEWS

  • Canton police arrested 49-year-old Terri Niner and 52-year-old Francis Niner in connection with the fatal stabbing of 30-year-old Ayla Mangan at a house in the 2300 block of 20th Street Northeast around 9:35 a.m. on Thursday — Terri faces murder, felonious assault, and domestic violence charges while Francis is charged with obstructing justice.  WKYC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kacy Carter is the principal at Jackson Memorial Middle School with 21 years in education and has guided Jackson Local Schools’ Little Congress program to win the 2025 Student Council School of Excellence; he uses his background in teaching social studies to help students learn to voice their ideas (he also enjoys coaching, NASCAR races, movies, and nonfiction reading).  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Perry sophomore Carolyn Geckler won the 16U Girls Freestyle National Championship in Fargo, N.D. on July 13th after defeating New Jersey's Marie Sharp 4-4 on criteria (improving on her fifth-place finish last year). She said (the title is a step toward her goal to compete at the world level) as she prepares for tougher competitions this fall.  The Repository
