COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Total Living Center opened an Agency Store at 200 Cherry Ave. NE that sells new, unused customer returns to fund its food program and other services for those in need. The store operates Tuesday through Friday and Saturday with memberships from $19 and weekly restocks—helping revitalize downtown Canton.  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Earth Fare at The Venue at Belden plaza in Plain Township is closing for the second time later this month—employees were notified on July 11 and a sign posted on July 12 announced shortened hours from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily with a 20% off sale, though the final closing date remains undetermined.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Most Stark County school districts will get more state funding for fiscal years 2026 and 2027 under a new budget that provides about $8 billion a year, but Canton City and Canton Local Schools will see cuts including a $3.1 million drop for Canton City Schools — local leaders worry that veto override plans could lead to further funding losses. Officials say the new funds do not meet the needs of students and educators, and they urge caution as changes take effect.  The Repository

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Canton Recycle Center at 742 Schroyer Ave. SW accepts household hazardous waste, scrap metal, e-waste, and tires at no cost all year—providing residents with a free and safe disposal option.  The Repository

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • North Canton ranked No. 12 on PetSmart’s latest list of the top 25 cat-loving cities based on cat adoptions and product sales—making it the only Ohio city on the list. The report was released on July 11.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Amanda Vestri won her first national title at the USA Track and Field Women’s 6K Championships on Saturday in downtown Canton—she recorded a time of 18:28.57, beating the field by nearly seven seconds and earning $6,000. Vestri, who finished second last year, will next compete at the USA Track and Field Championships starting July 31 in Eugene.  The Repository
