  • On July 2, 2025, family and friends gathered at Darlin’s CREW in Canton for a benefit event and vigil for missing 26-year-old Ryan ‘JJ’ Godbey — the community expressed their concern as the search continues.  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A local lottery player won $150,000 with a $5 ticket in the Monopoly Bonus Spectacular 25x scratch-off game purchased at Giant Eagle on Lincoln Way E in Massillon on July 2—after taxes, the winner takes home about $108,000. The Giant Eagle also earned a $1,500 bonus and four top prizes remain available in the game.  The Repository

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 2, dozens gathered at Darlin’s CREW bar in Canton for a drag show and vigil where supporters—including drag entertainer Lady Inferno Diamond who donated all tips toward a $5,000 reward—chanted 'Bring Ryan home!' for missing performer Ryan Godbey, who was last seen on June 19 as police continued their investigation.  The Repository

  • Independence Day celebrations across Northeast Ohio unfolded over several days. In Canton, residents celebrated the Monumental Fourth event on July 3 at McKinley Memorial Park — North Canton hosted a parade today and other communities plan fireworks on July 5.  The Repository

  • A new poll asks Canton pet owners if their pets become anxious amid today's fireworks — the story offers tips to keep animals safe by suggesting extra exercise before the displays and a quiet space during the celebrations.
