ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The eastbound right lane of Opportunity Corridor at East 55th reopened after an SUV crashed into a pole Friday morning—damaging a transformer and some lights with no injuries reported.  FOX 8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • State budget talks will remove pharmacies' dispensing fees while tying drug payments to a public list—moves that the Ohio Pharmacists Association warns will force many local pharmacies to close if the changes become law, which could limit access to needed medications.  The Repository

CRIME NEWS

  • At 3 a.m. on June 27, thieves broke into Jeff's Motorcars in Jackson Township and stole a BMW 760, a BMW M2, a BMW X5 & an Audi S4, and police later recovered one of the vehicles.  The Repository
  • Canton woman Destany Scott, 19, was indicted by a grand jury for child endangerment after she allegedly slammed an 11-year-old girl's head against a metal part of a slide at Stark-Wayne Schrader Park on April 18 — she pleaded not guilty and her pretrial hearing is set for July 15.  WKYC
  • An employee at Aultman Hospital was shot in the line of duty on June 27 and is in stable condition while Canton Police investigate the incident — the hospital said its emergency department remains safe and secure.  The Repository

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Canton officials said they were misled when they learned that the $2 million sale of Victory Square Apartments to a New York firm was actually completed through Lippert Road Apartments LLC, which is linked to the previous owner & may affect planned repairs. The city dropped its lawsuit after fines were paid and renovations began but said it will keep a close watch on the property if conditions do not improve.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Canton native Darryn Peterson, a five-star recruit who averaged 33 points his final high school season, is widely projected as a top pick in the 2026 NBA draft (several outlets rank him as No. 1 overall) and will start playing college basketball at Kansas this fall. He played locally and at top prep schools, and his hometown has high hopes for his future.  The Repository
  • The Lake Center Christian School baseball team won the Stark County high school boys team of the year vote with 71.56% of the 1,459 votes cast—bringing them their first regional championship and a historic finish as Division VI state runner-up. Voting for the Best of 2024-25 Stark County winners will continue on CantonRep next Tuesday.  The Repository
