  • The Greater Stark County Urban League and 717 Credit Union joined forces on June 20 to launch an Affinity Urban League credit card – it reinvests part of every transaction in programs that support equity and opportunity for underserved communities. The card has no annual fee – its APR ranges from 7.17% to 22.99%.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Canton City Schools announced the inaugural class for the Canton McKinley Hall of Distinguished Alumni — naming twelve living alumni and 15 posthumous honorees to be celebrated in September, with honorees representing public service, arts, sports and education. They will be honored at a dinner on Sept. 25 and a football game on Sept. 26 — with pre-game activities set to begin at 6:30 p.m.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal proposals to cut funding to the Legal Services Corporation could harm Community Legal Aid, which has helped Canton residents with issues like eviction and domestic violence for 73 years+30% of its funding is federal. If Congress approves the cut, local families will lose crucial legal assistance at a time when this support is needed most.  The Repository

  • Stark County voters are asked to choose the 2024-25 Best High School Boys Team — nominees include Lake Center Christian baseball, Louisville basketball and Perry basketball and wrestling. The vote closes at 5 p.m. June 26 and winners will be announced June 27.  The Repository
  • The OHSAA announced tournament divisions for local boys and girls basketball teams for the 2025-26 season on June 23 using its competitive balance process — a method that recalculates divisions each season while other winter sports remain unchanged.  The Repository
