Stark County Hunger Task Force delivers meal backpacks to kids at schools, libraries and bookmobile stops to make sure no one goes hungry this summer.

The nonprofit expects to hand out 1,500 backpacks weekly—up from about 600 in past years—to help families when school meals are not available.

Canton will open its first Police in Parks facility at King Park on June 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. The opening is part of the We Believe in Canton event and will include a ribbon cutting at 4:15 p.m. along with hot dogs, snow cones and games provided by the Police and Parks and Recreation Departments.

Stark County may spend far less on its jail renovation project after bids came in at $75,871,173—well below the estimated cost of approximately $80—$85 million.

County commissioners received the bid details on June 17 and will decide on approval on July 16 before the two-year renovation begins this summer and ends by the end of 2027.

The American Red Cross is asking donors in Northeast Ohio to give blood this summer, as donation rates are usually slow.
