- ➤ Stark County Hunger Task Force delivers meal backpacks to kids at schools, libraries and bookmobile stops to make sure no one goes hungry this summer. The nonprofit expects to hand out 1,500 backpacks weekly—up from about 600 in past years—to help families when school meals are not available. The Repository

- ➤ ABCD Inc. will host its 52nd annual meeting June 26 at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Canton with a reception at 5 p.m. and a program at 6 p.m. The event will feature a keynote address by Scott Hackenberg and the unveiling of the new Transportation and Job Training Center—part of the Crystal Park Revitalization Project named O’Jay’s Plaza. - ➤ The Stark County Sheriff's Office located the car linked to the fatal hit-run crash on June 15 in Canton Township that killed Sean R. Gates at 10:40 p.m. + the office is still investigating whether the driver can be identified. The Repository

- ➤ TourismOhio updated its ice cream trail this summer to include 150 shops statewide with 41 in Northeast Ohio, adding new stops such as Cowboy Creamery and Taggarts Ice Cream in Canton—readers can vote on their favorite shop in the official poll—. The Repository
- ➤ Massillon Museum will show the film Camp Delaware at 2 p.m. on June 28 in Gessner Hall—after the film, producers Francine and Mark Butler will lead a Q&A session—about the Civil War camp where Ohio troops trained. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Canton will open its first Police in Parks facility at King Park on June 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. The opening is part of the We Believe in Canton event and will include a ribbon cutting at 4:15 p.m. along with hot dogs, snow cones and games provided by the Police and Parks and Recreation Departments. - ➤ Stark County may spend far less on its jail renovation project after bids came in at $75,871,173—well below the estimated cost of approximately $80—$85 million. County commissioners received the bid details on June 17 and will decide on approval on July 16 before the two-year renovation begins this summer and ends by the end of 2027. The Repository

- ➤ The American Red Cross is asking donors in Northeast Ohio to give blood this summer, as donation rates are usually slow. Those who donate by June 30 will receive a $15 Amazon gift card and a chance at one of two $7,000 gift cards — donors from July 1-14 will earn a pair of exclusive Red Cross x goodr sunglasses while type O blood is most needed.
