  • Canton Pickle Fest returns downtown today at Centennial Plaza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—the free event will feature over 100 vendors including food trucks, pickle-themed foods like pierogis, cotton candy, and pickle pizza, plus contests such as a pickle juice drinking contest and a beer stein challenge.  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new Dollar General opened today at 3129 Lincoln Way E in Perry Township and is open until 10 p.m. daily with 10 to 15 workers—its grand opening at 8 a.m. includes $10 gift cards to the first 50 adults and tote bags for the first 100 customers.  The Repository
  • Maize Valley in Stark County is marking 20 years of winemaking by adding a coffee bar and converting a nearby house into an Airbnb by summer—steps that build on its evolution from a small farm market to a leading agritourism destination. Regular car shows and fall events draw visitors from across the region—helping the family-run winery and brewery continue to grow its local appeal.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Canton Board of Education approved staff changes at its June 18 meeting by accepting Michelle Hostetler’s retirement effective Oct 1 and hiring Stephanie Garren as principal and Ashley Mauger as assistant principal at North Canton Middle School effective Aug 1—July 31. The changes reflect an effort to update administrative leadership prior to the new school year.  The Repository

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Terminix report shows that Northeast Ohio, including Canton, ranked third among the top 50 U.S. cities for bed bug infestations based on recorded treatments — behind New York and Philadelphia. The report also notes that Ohio has four top 20 communities facing bed bug issues and offers tips on checking hotel rooms and luggage to reduce the spread.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Minerva High School cross country team won Stark County Girls Team of the Year for 2024-25 by earning 44.58% of 18,247 votes (they are the state's No. 1-ranked team) and have claimed three state championships in the past four years (including last November's Division II title).  The Repository
