- ➤ Canton Township will hold its sixth Community Day on June 21 at Faircrest Park—families can enjoy food, inflatables, live music and fireworks while trying out a new playground built with a $250,000 grant. Parking will be limited along nearby streets—free parking is available at Faircrest Elementary with a shuttle from LED Transportation for handicap accessibility. The Repository
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ At Home filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on June 16 and will close 26 stores by September 30 due to rising costs—no Ohio locations will shut down and over 10 stores will remain in the state. The Repository
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Stark County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting at Ashton's Bar and Grill—on 8th Street Northeast in Canton—that injured four people with minor gunshot wounds early Sunday morning as detectives search for a suspect after witnesses provided no information. WKYC

- ➤ Mitchell Tenpenny, a country pop artist known for his hit 'Drunk Me', will open for Nickelback at the Concert for Legends on Aug. 3 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival in Canton. Tickets start at $75.90+ fees. The Repository
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Larry Tausch, the Northwest High School principal, was appointed as the new superintendent of Canton Local Schools with a three-year contract starting Aug. 1 and a salary of $138,750—he said he is excited to lead the district while building on his 13 years of experience at Northwest. He plans to bring successful initiatives to Canton Local as he transitions from his long-time role. The Repository
- ➤ Denise Seachrist retires as dean of Kent State Stark and Salem campuses effective June 30 after nearly 40 years at the institution where she began as a music student and later led campus improvements—she now plans to spend more time with her husband, Lee Lipp, and continue serving on various boards. Her career focused on student success and community engagement in tough times, and her leadership will be greatly missed by staff and students. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On June 16, Canton annexed 164 acres of farmland from Canton Township near the southeast corner of Millerton Street SE and Central Avenue SE after approval by the city council and Stark County commissioners. Carrollton resident Gary Teeter owns the property and it is zoned light industrial for future development — some local neighbors oppose the annexation over concerns about increased traffic and safety.
