COMMUNITY NEWS

  • In May, Compassion Delivered reached a milestone by preparing and delivering 70,000 meals since 2017 for Stark County residents battling chronic or terminal diseases—each meal showing that no one faces illness alone. The organization will host its Be the Change gala on Oct. 17 and is developing a podcast to share its story.  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • This summer, The Peach Truck will return to Northeast Ohio with stops in several counties—including Canton at Belden Village Mall on July 3 and 27 from 10 to 12 p.m.—where customers can pick up preordered peaches or arrange for delivery; stops in Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, Macedonia, Medina, Wadsworth, Kent, Ravenna, Streetsboro, Hartville and Massillon are set with specific pick-up times.  The Repository

CRIME NEWS

  • Stark County Sheriff's Office said a shooting at a Canton bar injured four people and that witnesses provided no suspect information—officials say the investigation is ongoing.  WKYC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country singer Niko Moon will perform on Sept. 19 at Centennial Plaza in downtown Canton for the venue’s first ticketed concert; presale tickets are on sale today (general tickets begin June 20) with plans to host about 2,000 fans. ASM Global now manages the venue and the event will move indoors to the Civic Center if the outdoor show faces bad weather.  The Repository
  • Musician Niko Moon—who blends country pop and island sounds—will perform at Centennial Plaza on September 19 as part of his tour. He recently played at Country Fest.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Matt Kishman of Minerva introduced V.J.'s Law on June 10 to require that both law enforcement and child services be notified immediately when child abuse is suspected - a change prompted by a 2022 Canton case that left a baby at risk due to delayed reporting. The bill would also grant timely access to medical reports and reduce follow-up delays from seven days to 48 hours, and it is now before the House Public Safety Committee.  The Repository
  • Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family reached a $7.4B settlement with 55 states to resolve opioid lawsuits—Ohio will receive up to $198M for state and local relief. Payouts will start after Purdue secures enough creditor support for its Chapter 11 plan.  The Repository

  • Cailin Hill won the gold medal in bowling at the Special Olympics in Tallmadge—she received 96 supportive cards and a birthday gift that celebrated her accomplishment.  WKYC
