- ➤ Local schools and organizations in Stark County are offering free breakfasts and lunches at over 25 sites this summer to help children facing food insecurity. The programs include meal backpacks available through Aug. 8 — a move designed to support kids from different districts on site. The Repository

- ➤ Royal Docks Brewing Co. hopes to reopen its taprooms in Jackson Township and Cleveland after closing them due to a legal dispute with an investment group. The brewery is seeking new investors and working to resolve financial issues (including multiple judgment liens) as it nears its 10th anniversary. The Repository

- ➤ AMG Resources, the owner of the Galt Alloys plant in Canton Township, asked the U.S. Department of Commerce to include ferrotitanium in the president’s tariffs to protect jobs and national security — the company said that its two domestic manufacturers can meet U.S. demand and received support from U.S. Rep. - ➤ Canton City Schools Superintendent Jeff Talbert said the proposed state budget will cut available resources for students in Canton and Plain Local schools; officials warn this may mean fewer programs in the coming school year. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Shepler Church Avenue SW in Bethlehem Township – about a half mile north of Riverdale Street SW – will be closed for 19 days starting June 9 as crews repair a culvert. Drivers should use the detour via Hudson Drive, Sherman Church Avenue and state Route 212. The Repository
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ For May 26-June 1, Taylor Brownsword from Jackson and Danny Holihan from Hoover were named Stark County Athlete of the Week after getting 52.87% and 46.14% of the 32,145 votes cast—Taylor cleared 5 feet, 4 inches at a track meet and Danny had three hits in a baseball win. The Repository
- ➤ The 2025 OHSAA track and field state meet started Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus and runs through today with Stark County athletes competing for event titles—weather delays affected some Division II events and the meet is expected to restart at 2:30, shifting the schedule. - ➤ Federal League champion Jackson earned top honors in the 2025 season when Landen Doll was named Player of the Year and Bill Gamble was named Coach of the Year — Doll went 10-0 with a 0.25 ERA and threw two no-hitters while Gamble led Jackson to four straight league titles. Doll is the first Polar Bear to win the award since Yianni Skeriotis in 2018. The Repository
