- ➤ Matalco, a Canadian aluminum firm, is closing its Stark County Plain Township plant this week and will eliminate 71 jobs as layoffs begin June 6 and continue over the next 90 days + the company has offered some workers positions at its other U.S. plants citing weaker market conditions. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Canton City Council will repeal the fire and emergency-medical-services levies and end the road levy after voters approved the income tax increase — a move expected to lower property owners’ bills. The council will sell bonds in August to fund a new fire station on Viking Street NW and North Main Street, with revised design bids due by August 1 and construction set to begin in spring. - ➤ Tuscarawas Township trustees will hold two public hearings on June 10 at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the Township Building at 956 Manchester Ave. SW—discussing the new natural gas aggregation program approved on May 6 that will bundle service for eligible customers and is set to begin in the fall.
