COMMUNITY NEWS

  • University Hospitals is partnering with the Ohio Department of Education — USDA to provide free hot lunches to children ages 1 to 18 at seven Northeast Ohio sites from June 2 until mid to late August. Meals will be served Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with no registration required.  FOX 8

CRIME NEWS

  • The Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office investigated a murder-suicide in Dover Township on June 1 when a man shot his wife and then himself at 2011 Gordon Road NW - a woman preparing for a graduation party reported hearing the shots and both victims later died despite emergency efforts.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Representatives from the MAPS Air Museum in Green are traveling to Kalamazoo to recover four vintage Goodyear Duck amphibious planes for restoration. They plan to rebuild up to three planes using parts from four fuselages and wings, with restoration beginning in the fall and taking two to five years (one may be placed at Akron-Canton Airport).  The Repository
  • Canton Palace Theatre is launching three summer movie series—with one free outdoor series starting June 4 at Centennial Plaza and two indoor series beginning June 16 at the theatre featuring family films and Sensory Cinema accommodations. Indoor tickets cost $2 per person with doors opening at 12:15 p.m. for the Summer Kids series and 6 p.m. for Sensory Cinema, and the outdoor screenings run rain or shine with pre-show entertainment at 6:15 p.m.  The Repository

  • Variety Wholesalers will reopen 14 Big Lots stores on June 5—this includes the Canton store at 1336 Whipple Ave NW—as part of its effort to revive the brand after the bankruptcy that closed many stores.  The Repository
