- ➤ On May 30, nearly 200 people gathered at Witwer Park near North Canton Middle School to honor 13-year-old Matthew Schultz, who died on Memorial Day after falling off a parade float and being struck by a trailer tire—calling hours will be held June 2 with funeral services scheduled for June 3. - ➤ Sixth grade students from Patrick Elementary School have built lasting bonds with residents of Canton Christian Home after regular visits began three years ago under school counselor Theresa Barbato, and the seniors and students shared laughs, crafts and a picnic during the latest visit. Organizers plan a carnival for the students next fall to continue this special program. The Repository

- ➤ Canton Frontiers International is working with the Ohio State Highway Patrol to launch the 'How I Got Here' outreach program that will let professionals visit schools and share their career journeys—helping students, especially minorities, see law enforcement as a real option. The program will include field trips to the Highway Patrol Academy and may expand across Stark County. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ohio's sales tax holiday from Aug. 1 to 14 lets shoppers buy qualifying items priced at $500 or less in store and online without paying state sales tax — items such as clothing, electronics, and home goods are included while motor vehicles, alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana products are excluded. Governor Mike DeWine announced the program on May 30, noting it will help families with school and household expenses. The Repository
