EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Switzerland of Ohio school board met at Swiss Hills Career Center on May 29 and voted unanimously to suspend grades 9-12 at Beallsville High School due to declining enrollment. Students in grades 7-8 will remain at the school while those in grades 9-12 will be reassigned based on location — east to River High School and west to Monroe Central, with open enrollment available for families choosing other schools. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ ODOT is planning a $9.6 million project to resurface roads, repair 21 bridges, and install new signals in Stark County, including areas in Canton, with work set for spring through fall 2026 — public comments are accepted until June 29. Drivers should expect some short-term lane and ramp closures in Canton Township during the project — construction updates will be posted at each location. The Repository
- ➤ Jackson Township will close the western section of the roundabout at Strausser Street NW and Lake O’Springs Avenue NW — scheduled for a slope repair — starting June 2 for three days, and motorists should use Lake O’Springs Avenue to Portage Street NW or state Route 241. The Repository

- ➤ Athletes from GlenOak and Louisville high schools were named Stark County Athlete of the Week for May 19-25—Louisville’s Leah Claugus earned 50.21% and GlenOak’s tennis doubles team of Dylan Wiles and Jack Slay received 48.56% of the 21,376 votes cast.
