COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Marlboro Township will reopen the historic Dr. Kersey G. Thomas house with tours and an ice cream social today—township trustees are also weighing a new police levy for the November ballot to help cover rising police costs. Road repairs on Ravenna and Edison streets will begin in June, a 40-acre wetland restoration is underway, and community events including a Memorial Day parade and fire company lunch are scheduled.  The Repository
  • The Canton region will host many events in the coming weeks— including a free traveling bird photo exhibit at the Stark County District Library from June 2 to June 28, a charity art auction by the Stark County Hunger Task Force on May 31, and a free Fatherhood Coalition event at the Canton Museum of Art on June 5. Other events include a minority business game night on May 28, community gatherings at the Southeast Community Playground from May 30 to June 1, a Duck Derby fundraiser on June 7, free military family museum admission, local garage sales, a movie screening on May 31, and additional cultural and educational activities.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Stark State College will begin enrolling Bachelor of Science in Nursing students this fall for working nurses while Walsh University will partner with Xavier University of Louisiana to build academic pathways and student exchanges. A Jackson High School student received a National Merit Scholarship and two Stark State students earned All-Ohio Academic Team honors, Malone University professor Christina Woloch was recognized with a behavioral health award — Walsh University honored North Canton with its Distinguished Service Medal —.  The Repository

  • North Canton City Council is debating changes to the overnight parking ban from 2 to 6 a.m. and may allow a 48 or 72-hour limit instead—residents will have a chance to give feedback at a public hearing on June 9th at 6:45 p.m. at the North Canton Civic Center.  The Repository
