  • Stark A11y will host a free Global Accessibility Awareness Day event on May 21 from noon to 2 p.m. at Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake in Perry Township. The event will offer digital accessibility resources and a panel discussion with opening remarks from Lisa Parramore.  The Repository
  • Stark County Neighborhood Partnership Program now serves neighborhood associations countywide, offering monthly summits, training and grant funding for community leaders. Residents can join to form or bolster their groups and build stronger neighborhoods.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • For KING + COUNTRY, a Grammy-winning Christian pop group, will perform at Canton Memorial Civic Center on Oct. 16 on its 'The Beautiful Colours' tour; ticket presales begin May 19 while general sales open May 22 via Ticketmaster.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eric Dyrlund, a longtime Canton firefighter and Stark State College fire program coordinator in Jackson Township, said he has seen more locals training as firefighters since departments are actively seeking candidates. He began as an instructor and now leads the program with decades of experience.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio lawmaker Bill DeMora is looking into ways to require local broadcast for Cavaliers playoff games (fans complained about missing traditional TV coverage under the new streaming deal), noting NFL rules already let home market teams air on network TV.  WKYC
  • Stark County officials are balancing data center development in Perry Township with resident concerns over water, power, and farmland loss—local leaders in Canton and the township are negotiating tax and water-sharing deals. Meanwhile, in Massillon, Bitdeer’s cryptocurrency facility is partially built and bringing job promises while addressing minor local complaints.  The Repository

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ohio health officials report 253 Lyme disease cases statewide this year, with Eastern counties recording the highest counts; emergency room visits for tick bites have surged nearly 200% since April. Officials advise residents to check for ticks after outdoor activities (especially in wooded and grassy areas) to reduce infection risks.  The Repository

  • OHSAA expanded the track and field postseason to five divisions, reshuffling school assignments and meet locations.
