- ➤ Canton locals will enjoy many cultural events with a Tina Turner pops concert scheduled for May 16 at Umstattd Hall in Canton with guest conductor Jason Seber and vocalists, a Farmers Market at the Cultural Center for the Arts, and an Oddmall event on May 16–17 at Stark County Fairgrounds. - ➤ Canton’s Chorus for a Cause is set to leave on June 3 for Normandy, where 44 singers will perform 'Hymn to the Fallen' + join a parade during the annual D-Day observance, with additional shows planned in Paris. The Repository
- ➤ Cinemark is offering $1.75 family-friendly movies starting June 1 at over 20 theaters in Ohio and some locations may have screenings on Wednesdays, Mondays, or Thursdays (films include Paddington and Sonic the Hedgehog) with snack deals available online and at theaters. The Repository
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 14, the Ohio Department of Development awarded three Stark County projects $300,000, $380,000, and $300,000—part of its brownfield program. Maple Leaf Demolition in Canton, Cleveland Industrial Recycling, and Stark County Land Reutilization Corp in Alliance will assess sites for contamination. The Repository

- ➤ North Canton hired Michael Elkins as its new parks, planning and development director; he will start on Tuesday, May 26 (earning $101,516 a year). Elkins, previously in charge of Green’s Parks and Recreation, is expected to help reshape the city's park system. The Repository
- ➤ The Engineering Department announced that 15th Street NW between Woodland and Yale avenues will close for 30 days starting May 18 for sidewalk and streetscape improvements, and that Madison Avenue SE will close at Fourth Street SE on May 19 for railroad track repair.
