Good morning, Canton. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 14th of May.

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Akron-Canton region has seen more rain this spring, with the airport recording 5.02 inches in April and 2.02 inches so far in May, which hurt rounds at Lyons Den Golf Course by reducing play by 20%—meteorologists say these amounts are far from the record totals set in 1929 and 1956. The forecast calls for light rain on May 13 and May 14 and higher temperatures later in the week.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Canton City Council approved ASM Global taking over Centennial Plaza’s management on May 12—this move ended the old deal with the Pro Football Hall of Fame and added new staff and funds to run the plaza. ASM Global, which already runs the Canton Memorial Civic Center, now serves both venues to bring more shows and events to downtown Canton.  The Repository
  • A group of Ohioans has proposed a constitutional amendment to abolish property taxes on real property — including land, buildings and crops. The amendment will be reviewed by the Ohio Ballot Board today and, if certified, will move to the signature gathering phase, which means local schools must find another way to receive funding.  WKYC
