  • Massillon will host the Cruise-In and Music Festival downtown on June 7, featuring hundreds of vehicles, three live musical acts and food vendors along Lincoln Way between First Street NW and Third Street NE from noon to 9 p.m.—the free event is set to draw a large turnout from local car enthusiasts.  The Repository

CRIME NEWS

  • Akron Police announced Tuesday that Anthony Fields + Kurth Conaway were arrested for abuse of a corpse after human remains were found in a trash bag on May 2; the remains were identified as Xavier Menefee, a Canton man reported missing in August 2024.  FOX 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lake Local Schools Superintendent Kevin Tobin will retire Aug. 1 after 29 years at the district and nearly four decades in education. His leadership raised academic rankings and guided a $90 million building project—while the board works with Stark County Educational Service to name his replacement before his retirement.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed on May 26 (to honor those who served) and banks, the stock market, and the post office will be closed except for urgent deliveries. Trash pickup in Canton will be delayed (check local schedules) while grocery stores remain open for normal business.  The Repository
  • Stark County Children Services is asking voters to support a five-year, 1.4-mill replacement levy—early results from nearly 6,000 ballots show about 70% approval to help cover rising child placement costs. Officials explain that the new levy will fund care efforts as the current one expires and costs continue to rise.  The Repository
