EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At a special meeting Monday, the Board of Education approved new three-year labor agreements for over 700 non-teaching employees that include a 4% raise for the first two years and extra increases for select roles, while employees agreed to pay higher health insurance costs. The contracts run from July 1 to June 3, 2028 + negotiations began in February. The Repository
- ➤ Stark County universities are hosting graduation ceremonies for students, with Walsh University starting the season on May 3 in North Canton, followed by Aultman College (6 p.m. May 8) in Massillon, Malone University at 10 a.m. on May 10 in Canton, Mount Union on May 10 in Alliance, Kent State Stark on May 10 in Jackson Township, and Stark State College (2 p.m. May 18) at Canton Memorial Civic Center. Ceremony speakers include state Sen. Jane Timken and Jackson Township Trustee Todd Hawke as graduates prepare to receive their diplomas. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ohio SSI recipients will receive two Social Security checks in May 2025—one on May 1 for the current month and another on May 30 for June since the payment is issued early when June 1 falls on a weekend. Traditional Social Security payments are scheduled later based on birthdates. The Repository

- ➤ Stark County high school track athletes and relay teams posted their season best times and distances in track and field — the list was compiled by The Canton Repository and MileSplit Ohio. The results detail top efforts in events from shot put to hurdles — recording the best performances for boys and girls this season. The Repository
