COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Henry and Louise Timken Foundation is accepting online grant applications until 4:30 p.m. May 1 for organizations including tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) agencies or government entities with three years of continuous operations. Applications from organizations with Stark County programs in medical vision services, aviation or the arts will get preference.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Canton native Kimberle Williams Crenshaw will sign her memoir 'Backtalker: An American Memoir' with a Q&A session at the Canton YWCA (231 Sixth St. NE) on May 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $55.20.  The Repository

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Perry Township officials and Panattoni are reviewing a proposal for a data center near Canton and addressing residents’ concerns about energy use, water consumption, and local benefits (the developer said the tenant will be part of the community) while locals push for real returns on investment.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio Department of Development announced $1.3 million in tax credit funding for film projects statewide, including the Canton-area second season of Sugarcreek Amish Mysteries set to air today at 9 p.m. on UPtv.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jackson high school baseball won 4-1 over rival Hoover on Tuesday, Apr. 21 when a Hoover error, a sacrifice fly by Brody Folk, and a single from Evan Beard sparked three runs in the 5th inning — key plays that earned the victory.  The Repository
  • Matt Voll resigned as head coach of Perry High School boys basketball on April 22+ the program has now begun its search for a new coach after his three-season tenure that included a state finals run. School administrators praised his leadership.  The Repository
