Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 23rd of April.
Good morning, Canton.
Perry Township's fiscal officer Craig Chessler criticized trustees for approving 6% pay raises for road workers and expensive health savings account cards—saying the spending hurts taxpayers and street repaving efforts.
Trustees, who omitted his report from the township newsletter, defended the measures and will seek a 2.9-mill road levy on May 6 after two previous attempts failed.
Travelers must show a REAL ID or TSA-approved ID at airport checkpoints by May 7, so Ohio residents should visit a BMV location with documents proving their legal name, birth date, Social Security number, and Ohio residency.
The new card will be mailed within 10 business days and unaccompanied minors flying commercially need a compliant card while those flying with a parent are exempt.
Stark County high schools released their season best track and field results for boys and girls, featuring events such as shot put, discus, high jump, and relay races.
The records, reported through Saturday (from The Canton Repository and MileSplit Ohio), include electronically timed times and carefully measured distances that highlight top local performances.
Voters selected one girl and one boy for Stark County Athlete of the Week from nominees at GlenOak, Hoover, Jackson, Lake, Marlington, Massillon, McKinley, Northwest and Sandy Valley for the week of April 14th to 20th.
