  • Family and friends in Canton gathered on Friday, Apr. 17 to honor Charise Otis by releasing dozens of red balloons in her memory (her favorite color), creating a heartfelt tribute.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Coachella Weekend 2 began Friday and runs through Sunday. Ohio roots were highlighted as Akron-based Devo performed Friday (6:45 p.m.) on the Mojave stage, while Cleveland-linked Nine Inch Noize will perform today (8:00 p.m.) on the Sahara stage, and headliner Sabrina Carpenter addressed controversy from an earlier set.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ReliaRide donated two wheelchair vans to Alliance High School's Auto Technology program on Friday, Apr. 17, giving students hands-on practice with modified vehicles & offering nursing students a chance to learn patient transport.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials and community leaders met on April 17 at City Hall to discuss homelessness, limited warming shelter resources last winter, and plans to expand volunteer services plus improve regional communication. Representatives from several groups stressed clearer partnerships across Stark County.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Canton hosted team owners’ meetings in 1920 that formed the NFL and set a local foundation for professional football. The historic gathering continues to shape the city’s sports legacy.  The Repository
  • Emerson Karrenbauer (track) from Perry and Luke Spitler (baseball) from Central Catholic were named Stark County High School Athlete of the Week for April 6-12. Karrenbauer earned 47.12% of the votes while Spitler received 39.11% from 32,438 total votes.  The Repository
