GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stark County Children Services is asking voters to approve a replacement levy in the May 6 primary to cover rising child placement costs; the new 1.4 million dollar levy would raise taxes for a $100,000 home from $31 to $49 as costs nearly doubled since 2019 — a measure to support nearly 500 children in custody. On March 28, protesters gathered outside the Canton building to voice their concerns while officials stress that the funds will also help support kinship, emergency, and short-term placements.  The Repository
