ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 56-year-old motorcyclist, Periklis B. Giamourides, died after colliding with a car on the 900 block of 25th Street NW at about 12:27 p.m. on Monday—Canton police said the car driver was uninjured and is not suspected of being impaired. The Repository
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Canton can remove bats without a permit using bat exclusion— a safe method allowed from April 1 until May 15, even though all bat species are protected and four are endangered. Removal using glue traps, toxic chemicals, or sealing entry points while bats are still inside is illegal and extra permits will be needed after May 15. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Stark County Children Services is asking voters to approve a replacement levy in the May 6 primary to cover rising child placement costs; the new 1.4 million dollar levy would raise taxes for a $100,000 home from $31 to $49 as costs nearly doubled since 2019 — a measure to support nearly 500 children in custody. On March 28, protesters gathered outside the Canton building to voice their concerns while officials stress that the funds will also help support kinship, emergency, and short-term placements.
