  • A new comet called SWAN25F was discovered last month and can be seen on the northeastern horizon before sunrise until April 14th—observers with binoculars or a small telescope may catch this rare view.  The Repository
  • Pike Ridge Park opened Friday on a 520-acre site in Pike Township, offering five miles of hiking and horseback riding trails. Stark Parks will expand the trail system and preserve the land with a conservation easement—more details are expected.  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Big Lots stores in Alliance and New Philadelphia will reopen May 1 and the Canton Township store will open June 5 under new ownership—Variety Wholesalers—after the chain closed many locations last year.  The Repository

  • Walmart stores in Canton received a recall notice for Marketside's washed and ready-to-eat celery sticks after tests showed potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination; the product is past its best-if-used date (over 1,500 cases) and is no longer on shelves though some may still be frozen.  FOX 8
