  • The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown has designated church prayer sites today in response to Pope Leo XIV's call for peace, with Sancta Clara Monastery (noon) in Plain Township and the Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Canton hosting a Vigil for Peace from 7 to 8 p.m.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Canton announced a new R&B Fest as part of its 2026 Summer Concert Series at Centennial Plaza featuring national acts Brownstone and Sunshine Anderson + ticket details will be shared next week.  The Repository
  • The Fourth District of Omega Psi Phi will host the Calvin H. Thomas Talent Hunt Competition on April 18 at 5 p.m. in Timken Auditorium, where high school students will perform + the winner will advance to Cincinnati on Aug. 1 for the 80th Talent Hunt Demonstration.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews will replace a culvert on Georgetown Street NE in Osnaburg Township, closing 1,000 feet east of Nickel Plate Avenue beginning Monday, April 13 for five days. Drivers must follow a detour (via state Route 44, state Route 153 and Paris Avenue NE) as announced by the Stark County Engineer’s Office.  The Repository

  • Local home builders are designing new constructions with flexible spaces, smart technology and energy-efficient systems to meet modern family needs.   • Bella Bacorn of St. Thomas Aquinas and Lincoln Reese of Alliance were named Stark County High School Athlete of the Week for March 30-April 5; Bacorn, a softball player, earned 46.82% of the vote (61,470 votes cast) while Reese, a baseball player, received 31.99%.  The Repository
  • At Lake High School’s Rock'em Relays on Friday, April 10, athletes competed in track and field events as rain fell, with photos capturing key moments (including long jump, relay, and sprint medley races) that showcased local talent.  The Repository
  • Lake + Hoover high school softball teams played on Thursday, April 9 at Hoover High. Key plays from Lake's Makenna Miller and Gianna Greathouse drove a competitive game, captured in photos from the match.  The Repository
