  • Matalco, a Canadian aluminum company, said it will close its Stark County plant in June—eliminating 71 jobs. The company has offered some workers transfers to its other five U.S. plants.  The Repository

CRIME NEWS

  • All Stark Library locations closed Wednesday due to threats—police evacuated the Main Library after a report of a man with a gun and investigations later showed the claims were unfounded, leading officials to plan reopening today after confirming staff safety.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Stark County school leaders are worried about the governor’s proposed biennium budget which would cut state funding by $103.4 million over two years & leave many districts with less aid. Fairless, North Canton & Perry Local schools are preparing to trim budgets and adjust spending as lawmakers work on the state operating budget.  The Repository

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ruby-throated hummingbirds are set to return to Ohio around April 20, and a Marion naturalist says planting native flowers, providing water and offering old fruit to attract insects will help bring them to yards. Homeowners should fill feeders with a sugar-water mix at a four-to-one ratio and clean them regularly (without red dye) to keep the birds healthy.  The Repository

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has compiled a list of the best inland lakes for fishing that does not include Lake Erie and highlights spots to catch bass, saugeye, crappie, and sunfish. The agency began stocking 85,000 rainbow trout on March 12 and will continue until late May—anglers are reminded to renew their $25 fishing licenses.  The Repository
