BUSINESS NEWS

  • Breeze Airways will soon start a nonstop flight from Akron-Canton Airport to West Palm Beach this fall. The service will begin on September 5 with flights on Fridays and Mondays, and a BreezeThru route with a connection will start on August 7 — giving more travel options to travelers.  The Repository
  • 1899 Indoor Golf announced on Facebook that it will close its Stark County location at 4700 Everhard Road NW on April 19. The business has served the Canton area for nearly six years while its Twinsburg location will remain open.  The Repository

CRIME NEWS

  • Police evacuated Stark Library Monday after a call said a man had a gun inside, and although staff returned at 3:10 p.m., the downtown building in Canton remained closed for the rest of the day.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country music star Cole Swindell will perform Sept. 5 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center as part of his Happy Hour Sad Tour—openers are Priscilla Block and Logan Crosby and tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday starting at $39.50 plus fees.  The Repository

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Stark County is drying out after nearly 2 inches of heavy rain caused flash flooding on roads and parking lots with no injuries reported and past flood mitigation reducing damage—Louisville officials will clear debris from the East Branch of the Nimishillen Creek to prepare for future storms.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stark County library directors have urged community members to contact their state representatives before Wednesday—after the House Finance Committee accepted an amendment that cuts $100 million from funding—to restore the Public Library Fund and protect vital library services and programs.  The Repository

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Sears Magnolia catalog house at 424 19th Street NW in Canton remains in the family as Don Cirelli will continue living there after his mother, Mary Cirelli (a former state lawmaker), passed away last month. Built in 1923 from a catalog kit in the historic Ridgewood neighborhood, the two-story home has received unsolicited sales inquiries but is not for sale.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ohio High School Athletic Association announced spring sports schedules with softball games at Firestone Stadium and baseball games at Canal Park in Akron along with eight state baseball semifinal games at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium in Canton — competitions run from May 29 to June 15. Other tournaments include boys tennis at the College of Wooster, boys volleyball at Wittenberg, track and field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium and lacrosse at Historic Crew Stadium.  The Repository
