GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Canton is using $500,000 of income tax revenue to fund nine agencies for summer youth programs offering camps, training and workforce development opportunities — programs serving 200 or more students may receive up to $100,000 while smaller programs may get up to $250 per student. If these programs prove successful over the summer, agencies will automatically receive the same level of funding in 2026.  The Repository

HEALTH NEWS

  • Liberty HealthShare launched the Sharing Hearts Fund for Pediatric Wellness in Stark County to help families pay for children’s physical, dental and vision exams. A local committee will review requests for about $25,000 in first round funding as families apply by 5 p.m. on April 30 (applications are accepted online or via paper forms available at 4455 Hills and Dales Road NW).  The Repository

  • The 81st annual Stark County Amateur Basketball Association Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Wednesday May 21 at Tozzi’s on 12th Street in Canton with doors opening at 5 p.m. Eight new members — Janae Halter, Ricky Jenkins, Paul Johnson, Bob Johnston, David McBride Sr., Dave Nash, Michael Parker and Amber Robinson will be inducted during the event.  The Repository
  • The OHSAA announced spring sports division assignments for the 2025 season — listing groups for baseball, lacrosse, softball, boys tennis, track and boys volleyball for Canton-area schools. Fans can now check the assignments to see how teams are grouped for the upcoming season.  The Repository
  • On Tuesday, NFL owners approved a report at The Breakers that officially adds All-American Football Conference stats into the NFL records. The update boosts Paul Brown's coaching wins to 222 and names Canton's Marion Motley as the top running back by average yards per carry — a change that recognizes the league's historic achievements.  The Repository
