CULTURE NEWS

  • The Canton Symphony Orchestra announced five finalists for its vacant music director role on March 31; candidates will guest conduct MasterWorks concerts during the 2026-2027 season and a new conductor will be named in the spring, promising fresh leadership for local music.  The Repository

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Babcock and Wilcox is asking Massillon for a 50% income tax credit as it plans to build a $90 to $100M hydrogen plant at the Energy and Technology Park — the project should create 12 to 15 jobs and may start construction in May with an opening by late 2027.  The Repository
  • Northeast Ohio residents face rising electric bills from higher power generation costs and increased demand, with regulators approving modest fee hikes. Residents are advised to compare rates online, seal windows and doors, use efficient appliances (and explore assistance programs) to manage their bills.  The Repository

  • Ohio law treats adult children as month-to-month tenants, so parents must serve a 30-day written notice and file a court complaint to evict them instead of changing locks or shutting off utilities.  The Repository

  • Build Ohio Neighborhoods Inc. held a groundbreaking on March 31 at 727 Milner St. in Ward 2 to start building 10 affordable homes priced between $150,000 and $160,000 + offering property tax credits and up to $70,000 in down-payment assistance; further projects in Alliance are planned for 2027 and 2028.  The Repository
