  • Stark County is set for a busy schedule as a Taste of Hope fundraiser in Canton on April 16 will feature chef Stephan C. Baity, a Canton Symphony Orchestra concert honoring Journey will play at Umstattd Hall on Saturday, and a Cinderella ballet will perform at the Palace Theatre on Friday and Saturday—additionally, a preservation workshop is planned at McKinley Presidential Library on April 10, COMPASS will host sexual assault awareness events in April, and pediatric wellness funding from Liberty HealthShare (applications due by April 30) accompanies further activities in Massillon, North Canton, Pike Ridge Park, and Plain Township including discussion groups, virtual chats, resource fairs, a new Thursday Night Concert Series, and benefit concerts for Whispering Grace Horses scheduled for today and Sunday.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Stark State College holds open houses on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at its Jackson Township campus and on April 9 in Akron—while Aultman College hosts a preview day at 6 p.m. on April 9 to showcase its health science programs. Local students can apply for scholarships including Stark State’s Choose Ohio First, the Massillon Rotary Foundation nursing awards with applications due by April 30, and the Ohio Forestry Association’s E.B. Miller Memorial Scholarship with applications due by April 15—while free ExploreAg camps offer weeklong and one-day agricultural and STEM learning with selections announced by May 1.  The Repository

  • Developer Steve Coon has renovated the former Landmark Tavern at 501 Tuscarawas St. E in downtown Canton—restoring a historic building for the community.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • John Albrecht, 78, a blind U.S. Army veteran from North Canton, will join the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic from today to April 5 in Aspen-Snowmass, Colorado — where disabled veterans will learn adaptive skiing and snowmobiling — with guidance from trained aides. He said his past clinic experiences helped him improve and he looks forward to sharing the event with his wife.  The Repository
