  • The Elm Inn, a classic dive bar in Nimishillen Township, has served locals comfort & standout food since 1952, embodying a long tradition of community dining that remains a local favorite.  The Repository
  • A new litter of service dog puppies from Canine Companions begins early training this week, with a live puppy cam showing their socialization every day from 9 a.m. + 11 p.m. on Mar. 27. Volunteer puppy raisers in Northeast Ohio will help prepare them for future roles assisting people with disabilities.  WKYC
  • Bill Smith + Mike Gallina, longtime volunteers, have been named as general chair and vice chair to lead over 2,500 helpers for the Enshrinement Festival, which will kick off with a community parade Aug. 1 and include an induction ceremony at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on Aug. 8.  The Repository
  • Stark County Hunger Task Force will partner with Nathan’s Patio to host an '80s-themed SINGO fundraiser from 7 to 9 p.m. April 2 at 725 30th St. NE in Canton (this event marks the kickoff of its 45th anniversary celebrations).  The Repository

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After a 7-ton meteor exploded on Mar. 17, cameras captured three fireball meteors above Northeast Ohio on Mar. 22 and 23, including one at Hiram College 35 miles northeast of Akron. Meteorite hunters have searched Medina County for fragments and continue verifying reports.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a 41-day halt on new water contracts, Canton approved the restoration of water services on Mar. 18, easing sale difficulties for Perry Township homeowners. Realtors noted relief as residents move forward with home sales.  The Repository
  • TSA agents at Ohio airports remain unpaid amid the government shutdown that began on Feb. 13 when DHS funding lapsed; travelers cannot tip or offer gift cards due to federal ethics rules and should instead support verified nonprofits or use donation boxes at Columbus and Cleveland airports.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Ohio Prep Sports Media Association released the 2026 All-Ohio high school boys basketball teams for Divisions IV, V, VI and VII on March 25, and the teams for Divisions I, II and III are set for release today.  The Repository
  • The Eastern Buckeye Conference announced its 2025-26 winter sports awards on March 25, recognizing top basketball, bowling and wrestling athletes from Alliance, West Branch and Carrollton. Winners were JR Jackson (Alliance) and Madi Hoopes (West Branch), while Carrollton clinched bowling and boys wrestling titles and no girls champion was named.  The Repository
  • The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton preserves NFL history from a 1920 meeting held in a Hupmobile showroom. Visitors can explore bronze busts (featuring legends such as Jim Thorpe and Joe Montana) and interactive displays while nearby eateries offer local dining.  The Repository
  • Walsh University basketball player Brayden Gross, who was named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, has entered the transfer portal and has an official visit planned to Northern Illinois on March 28. He has also heard interest from other programs.  The Repository
  • Stark County high school sports saw key wins from March 23-29 as Jackson outscored GlenOak with a home run by Addy Essig and Sandy Valley shut out Canton South with standout pitching by Bella Meade.  The Repository
  • Stark-area college athletes earned major honors this week as Kiara Hockman shared national gymnastics titles for SUNY Brockport on March 20 in Cortland and others excelled in swimming, diving, wrestling, basketball, and more at regional events.
