BUSINESS NEWS

  • Joann Inc., with 33 local stores, is holding going-out-of-business sales that will end by May while supplies last—final closing dates have not been set as GA Group and its partners wind down operations.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • This month, Canton will host several events including Sneaker Mania at the Executive Event Center, a Celtic music show at the Roxy Theatre in Minerva, Kidfest at Canton Memorial Civic Center, and a comedy performance by the Improvaneers at the Cultural Center for the Arts. Other events include an international dinner and cultural festival at Walsh University, a Canton Symphony Orchestra concert on Saturday at Umstattd Hall, the World Series of Comedy in Massillon from March 26 to 29, and a tribute to Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton on March 25 in New Philadelphia—offering diverse local entertainment for all.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • GlenOak principal Gayle Kimbrough was named Plain Local's assistant superintendent—succeeding Brian Matthews who will retire at the end of the school year. The district board approved her appointment and named GlenOak deputy principal Brett Niarchos as the new principal at a Wednesday evening meeting at Avondale Elementary.  The Repository
  • North Canton City Schools approved a three-year tentative agreement with the North Canton Education Association that gives teachers a 3% raise each year with no benefit changes, effective from July 1 through June 30, 2028. The board also approved three-year contracts for key administrators and authorized purchases including Chromebooks, replacement theatre seats, and a rubber surface playground—moves that support school improvements.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Canton’s 911 emergency phone line is down and Stark County sheriff’s dispatch center is now answering calls for police, fire and medical help—residents can still call 911 for emergencies and try nonemergency calls later at 330-649-5800—and the city is working to fix the system.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Perry Panthers, a 14-13 team and the first 13-loss squad to reach a state title game, will face Westerville North, a 24-2 team with a 23-game win streak, today at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Dayton. Perry seeks its first state championship while Westerville North aims to build on its winning streak.  The Repository
