BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sheetz will host an all-day hiring event next week at 116 Ohio locations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., planning to hire 250 new workers. Prospective employees must apply online ahead of check-in at each store (open positions include store team members and supervisory roles).  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Walsh University will host its annual International Dinner & Cultural Festival this Saturday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Barrett Business & Community Center on campus — tickets cost $15 for general admission and $5 for students — with free admission for children under 5.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Canton City Schools broke ground Wednesday on two new elementary schools—Lincoln and Timken—that will serve kindergarten through sixth grade starting in the 2026—27 school year. Officials say the new buildings will bring schools back to neighborhoods while reducing long bus rides for students.  The Repository
  • Jackson Local Schools' board approved a tentative three-year contract, effective July 1, that raises teacher pay by 3% per year and gives a one-time 1% bonus to teachers who sign on while also setting a new salary schedule with a bonus for administrators. The board planned a Military Honors Wall at the high school to honor veterans—set to be finished by Veterans Day 2027—and moved the April meeting to the 24th.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Louisville High School senior Tate Aljancic is leading his team as they prepare to face Cincinnati Aiken in the basketball state final on Friday at 1 p.m. at University of Dayton Arena—he helped them win a regional title this season by scoring, grabbing rebounds, and making good passes.  The Repository
  • Mikey Haley, the junior point guard for the Perry Panthers, returned to practice just over two weeks after his appendix was removed and is cleared to play in Friday's OHSAA Division II state championship game against Westerville North in Dayton. Coach Matt Voll said he will monitor Haley's stamina during workouts this week to decide his playing time—further adjustments will be made as his condition improves.  The Repository
  • Two Stark County high school teams, Louisville and Perry, made state finals for the first time after strong semifinal wins at Memorial Field House. On Friday at University of Dayton Arena, Louisville will face Cincinnati Aiken at 1 p.m. and Perry will play Westerville North at 7:30 p.m. — tickets cost $16 for adults and $10 for students and are on sale now on the OHSAA website.  The Repository
