CULTURE NEWS

  • Canton’s Cultural Center Gallery opens a New Wave art exhibit tomorrow that revives the big '80s with displays inspired by Michael Jackson (Ernest and E.T.) during a downtown reception.  The Repository
  • Chart-topping musician John Waite will headline a spring break concert on April 25 at Lions Lincoln Theatre in downtown Massillon (tickets are available through the Canton-based radio station Sunny 101.7).  The Repository

  • The BBB warns local residents to beware of IRS scams that pressure individuals to pay immediately via phone, email, or text. They advise contacting the IRS directly (using official contact details) to verify any claims and protect personal information.  The Repository

  • Local hospitals reported births from Feb. 24 to March 5 as families welcomed boys and girls at ETAULTMAN Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Mercy (serving Canton, North Canton, Hartville, Sugarcreek, Massillon, Navarre, Alliance, and Canal Fulton).  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • The OHSAA state wrestling tournament concluded Sunday, March 15 at Value City Arena in Columbus, crowning 56 champions across all divisions. Canton-area teams were among the 104 qualifiers who delivered intense matches + live updates aired on the NFHS Network.  The Repository
  • The 104th OHSAA boys basketball state tournament begins March 19 in the Dayton area, with Massillon returning to state play in Division II for the first time since 1945. Teams across divisions will compete at the UD Arena (hosting championship games) and Nutter Center, with all games streamed live.  The Repository
  • Walsh men's basketball advanced in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional after beating Northern Michigan — coach Jeff Young and players Kaleb Schaffer and Zack Oddo praised the team's strong effort as they prepare for the next round.  The Repository
  • On Saturday, March 14 at College of Wooster, the Massillon Tigers defeated Euclid 76-72 in the Division II OHSAA regional final, with key plays sparking the win.  The Repository
