CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Massillon Museum in partnership with the Canton Palace Theatre will host a screening of a 1955 film by Nell Dorr and a panel discussion on March 26. Doors open at 6 p.m. at 121 Lincoln Way E, Massillon, and the event is free & open to all. The Repository
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Stark County’s Legacy Project now runs a new school-based mentoring program at Gibbs Elementary that pairs volunteer mentors with students (over 1,100 weekly). Supported by United Way, the program began in late January and is one of 21 initiatives serving more than 9,250 students since 2015. The Repository
- ➤ Sebring Local superintendent Toni Viscounte will retire Aug. 1 after nearly 13 years, and the district will name her successor March 16 to ensure a smooth transition as she focuses on family. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Alliance Schools sold the former North Lincoln property for $10 to the city after council approval on March 2. The city will transfer the site to the Greater Alliance Development Corporation to support future redevelopment plans for the neighborhood. The Repository
- ➤ Perry Township has about $170,000 left from a state grant for upgrades at Fasnacht Farm Park and will seek estimates for repairs — including roof replacement on the historic farmhouse at 1126 Jackson Ave NW, drainage fixes for the barn, and possible demolition of outbuildings. A new driveway and parking lot are complete while officials consider a historic designation to boost future funds. The Repository

- ➤ Perry High School won four track titles at the OATCCC Indoor State Championships on March 8 at Spire Academy near Geneva. The boys 1,600-meter relay team won by 0.01 seconds while Ahsha DiPietro earned three girls seated state championships. The Repository
- ➤ Central Catholic girls basketball beat Smithville in the OHSAA Division VI regional final at Lake High School on Saturday, March 7 – the team celebrated a strong win with high team spirit. The Repository
- ➤ Walsh University men earned a No. 1 seed & will host the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional game at the Cecchini Center on Saturday, March 14, facing No. 8 seed William Jewell, while Malone University women, seeded No. 6, will meet Northwood on Friday, March 13 at Grand Valley State in a rematch.
