- ➤ On Feb. 21, 350 participants plunged into icy Lake Cable in Jackson Township to benefit local schools and charities after a delayed start, while North Canton Rotary hosted its 30th annual Chili Open with winter golfing and a chili cook-off at Arrowhead Golf Club to raise scholarship funds. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Plain Township plans a Plain Local Schools bond levy to raise $116.8 million for three new elementary schools, with mailers coming soon and a May property tax vote. New fire chief appointed in December and free amphitheater events (including a Taylor Swift-themed dance party on June 27) are scheduled. The Repository
- ➤ Reps Young and White introduced House Bill 690 to increase penalties for drivers who ignore school crossing guards, making the offense a first-degree misdemeanor with potential jail time and double fines in school zones. Canton officials say tougher penalties may help protect students and attract more crossing guards. The Repository
