COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Evangelist Greg Laurie will host a free Harvest Crusade event on June 13 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium that will include live worship and performances by Chris Tomlin and Jeremy Camp (the event will also be streamed online).  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Armstrong, a family-owned telecom provider from Pennsylvania, announced a deal on Feb. 17 to acquire Massillon Cable TV, which serves about 60,000 homes in the area (expected to close in the second quarter) and will add 96,000 passings to its network.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Stark County leaders and residents recalled Rev. Jesse Jackson’s influential visits to Mount Union and Kent State Stark, where he addressed packed audiences and sparked community change over the years. Jackson died Feb. 17 after battling Parkinson’s disease.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews began demolishing the Stark Main Library in Canton on Feb. 10, 2026 + video footage shows the work in progress.  The Repository
  • Yesterday, the Ohio Department of Agriculture issued a statewide quarantine to slow the spread of the spotted lanternfly, restricting the movement of trees and nursery stock without proper permits + the agency provided treatment guidance in its management guide.  The Repository

HEALTH NEWS

  • Canton’s Environmental Health Division added four new inspectors in 2025 after removing a pre-application fee, boosting inspections for food safety, pools, and nuisance complaints; inspection numbers increased significantly from 20 to over 100 recently (making the department nearly fully staffed).  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Voters can choose the Stark County High School Athlete of the Week for Feb. 9-15 as the poll remains open until 5:00 p.m. Thursday (winners for one girl and one boy will be revealed Friday morning on CantonRep.com).  The Repository
