BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Better Business Bureau warned local homeowners yesterday about unsolicited free roof inspections that may be scams and advised checking BBB.org (a trusted resource) and getting an insurance inspection before hiring a contractor.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • The McKinley Presidential Library and Museum will screen the film Camp Delaware at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 for $25 per person (popcorn and beverages included) as a Black History event featuring curator Tameka Ellington and filmmakers Mark and Francine Butler.  The Repository
  • Abigail Bontrager, a 21-year-old cellist from Massillon who graduated from Malone University in May, now plans to audition for symphony positions while freelancing and working in arts administration with local ensembles. She performs a mix of classical music and rock covers, including Tchaikovsky and Electric Light Orchestra.  The Repository
  • Local experts spotlight ten Stark restaurants they believe deserve national recognition after Social at the Stone House in Massillon was honored on USA TODAY's Restaurants of the Year list. The selection spans venues in Canton, Strasburg, Tuscarawas & Jackson Township, featuring farm-to-fork, wood-fired, Indian cuisine and sushi offerings.  The Repository

  • Canton City Schools will honor distinguished alumni Dr. Charles Hughes and JB Hilliard at its free Black History Month Celebration on Feb. 19 at Umstattd Hall at 6 p.m. The event is open to the public.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Samuel Baker from Hoover won a 1,600 race by beating Cash Iams from Tuslaw at the Stark County Indoor Track and Field Championships held recently.  The Repository
  • Fairless High School sophomore Brice Fuller was named the Gatorade Ohio Boys Cross Country Player of the Year on Feb. 15 after winning a state title and finishing 22nd at the national meet; he maintained a 4.09 GPA while participating in the Stark Youth Leadership Academy.  The Repository
  • Rocky River native Red Gerard advanced to the final in men's snowboard slopestyle at the Winter Olympics after finishing 11th in qualification on Sunday + he will compete for a medal in the final on Wednesday, Feb. 18.  WKYC
  • Louisville's Kylah Meyer and Northwest's Madelyn Begert are battling for the lead in the 1,600 race today at the Stark County Indoor Track and Field Championships in Canton.  The Repository
