- ➤ A fire started on Feb. 9 when a Plain Township family heated pipes to thaw frozen insulation at 2541 Willowrow Ave. NE, causing their mobile home and all contents to be lost and one occupant to be treated for smoke inhalation (the family is now staying with nearby relatives). The Repository
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A bright fireball meteor with blue and green flames lit Ohio's skies on Tuesday night, drawing sightings from Columbus to Cincinnati and even into Indiana (videos on social media captured its vivid tail and a possible boom). The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The IRS began processing 2025 tax returns on Jan. 26 and expects most electronic refunds within 21 days. Taxpayers in Canton can check refund status online (using their Social Security or ITIN number), although mailed returns or those needing extra review may take longer. The Repository
- ➤ Monument Road NW between 18th and 23rd streets remains closed for 120 days for sewer replacement work by city crews, with detour signs posted to maintain local access; the closure began Feb. 11. The Repository

- ➤ Valerie Watson from the Stark County Regional Planning Commission explained that landlords in Stark County may raise rent when increases are reasonable but must follow laws that protect tenants from retaliatory or discriminatory hikes.
