  • In January, a single mother of two in Plain Township, Catherine Tortola, received the keys to a 1,200 sqft home through a partnership by Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio, Hope Bridge Ministries, and the Christ Foundation.   • Walsh University President Tim Collins explained how higher education has driven national progress as America approaches its 250th birthday celebration in July (with Stark County institutions like Kent State playing a role).  The Repository

  • Animal Wellness Action urged pet owners to follow Ohio law by keeping outdoor animals safe from extreme cold on Feb. 7 in Northeast Ohio; state director Rachel Stupak said pets must have adequate shelter, food, and unfrozen water to prevent cold injuries.  The Repository

  • Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown is building a 2,100 sqft lodge called the Barndominium—featuring four bedrooms to sleep 8-12 guests and offering stay-and-play packages that include rounds on regional courses—and is set to open in May near the ninth green.  The Repository

  • Manchester boys basketball beat Northwest as Tyler Pappas logged a double-double to secure sole possession of first place in the Principals Athletic Conference — a significant win for the team.  The Repository
