COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Jackson Polar Bear Plunge fundraiser, organized by the Jackson Local Schools Foundation to help local schools, has been postponed because of dangerously cold weather and will be held at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 21 on icy Lake Cable.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Canton kicks off February with mini-golf activities at First Friday + a video game art show at The Hub on Feb. 6, while Lee Brice performs acoustically at the Palace Theatre on Feb. 5; additional events include stamp shows, tribute performances, dinner cabarets and art exhibits throughout the month.  The Repository
  • Canton-based artist Steve Ehret opens his solo exhibit 'Are You Kidding Me?' at Second April Studios today from 5 to 10 p.m. during First Friday festivities. He will host an art discussion session tomorrow (Feb. 7, noon to 6 p.m.) while his work remains on display through February.  The Repository

HEALTH NEWS

  • Meijer has recalled over 38,000 gallons of its steam distilled water across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin because a foreign substance may cause health issues; consumers should check red-lidded jugs (lot code 39-222) and return or dispose of them.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Voters selected candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026 on Feb. 5. The 50-person panel that includes local NFL figures and Directors with Stark County ties followed strict voting procedures.  The Repository
  • Following NFL Honors on Thursday, Feb. 5, five inductees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 were named and will be honored in Canton this summer — leaving 15 prominent candidates such as Bill Belichick and Eli Manning who did not receive enough votes.  The Repository
  • NFL's all-time leading scorer Adam Vinatieri was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Feb. 5 after a record-breaking career with the Patriots and Colts, with his legacy soon to be honored in Canton.  The Repository
  • Former 49ers running back Roger Craig was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026 after earning NFL honors on Feb. 5 for achieving 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in a season and winning three Super Bowls. He will join Canton ceremonies later.  The Repository
  • Luke Kuechly's eight-season NFL career earned him a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as announced Feb. 5; the former Carolina Panthers linebacker, known for his record tackles, will be enshrined in August.  The Repository
