- ➤ The Mercy Service League held its 11th annual Souper Bowl fundraiser on Feb. 1 at McKinley Eagles Club where local restaurants competed for the best soup in Stark County. Astoria Grill took honors and proceeds will provide safe sleep sacks for newborns at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. The Repository
- ➤ Stark Community Foundation said that record grants in 2025 generated $26.8 million in awards to local nonprofits (supporting arts, education, health, housing, and more) as donors set up 51 new funds and raised $31 million in gifts, growing its assets to about $478 million. The Repository
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Malone University in Canton went under a campus shelter-in-place order at around 8:30 a.m. Feb. 2 after a credible threat was reported. Officials advised those off campus to stay away and said more details would be provided soon. The Repository

- ➤ Two officers now patrol downtown on bikes to build community trust — Canton has also planned 23 engineering projects worth $44.6 million and $1.1 million in park upgrades for roadway repairs and new amenities in 2026. The Repository

- ➤ Costco is recalling its caramel-filled and chocolate hazelnut mini beignets after a mislabeling error risks allergic reactions for customers sensitive to tree nuts (Ohio stores sold the items between Jan. 16 and Jan. 30). The Repository
