- ➤ Lori M. Wemhoff, a Massillon native, was named executive director of YWCA Alliance, replacing interim director Sheri McDonald. The board announced her appointment on Jan. 6 as the chapter prepares to celebrate 100 years of service. The Repository

- ➤ Dollar General now offers same-day delivery via its app and website to over 17,000 stores nationwide, including 13 in Canton. Customers in Ohio can order free delivery on one myDG delivery order from Jan. 20 to Feb. 28 and pay an extra $1 for one-hour expedited service. The Repository
- ➤ United Airlines will add a fifth daily flight to Chicago O’Hare from Akron-Canton Airport starting in May — flights leave around noon with a return at 7:30 a.m. American Airlines and Breeze Airways are adding routes to Charlotte and Savannah. The Repository

- ➤ Plain Local Schools voters decide on May 5 whether to approve a levy that would add $122.50 per $100K annually for 37 years to raise $116.8 million to build three new elementary schools and update older facilities — the state is expected to cover 46% of costs. The Repository
- ➤ Preston Roseman, president of the Building Industry Association of Stark & East Central Ohio, said local technical education programs give students and workers a debt-free path into well-paying construction jobs. - ➤ Lake High senior Violet Seaman received a full-tuition presidential scholarship from Thiel College on Jan. 23 — the $158,080 award covers four years as she pursues a nursing degree and plays volleyball, and she was selected from over 150 competitors after group and individual interviews. - ➤ Gov. Mike DeWine held a press conference yesterday — outlining winter storm preparations ahead of today’s heavy snow warning effective 10 a.m. — as state agencies pre-treated roads and urged motorists to limit travel. The Repository

- ➤ Julius Kimbrough from Canton South competed for the John Carroll men's indoor track team at the JCU Alumni Open on Jan. 17, winning both the high jump and long jump events + setting a personal record in the high jump. The Repository
- ➤ Two athletes from Alliance High School were named Stark County Athlete of the Week for Jan. 12-18. Ashlynn Pennington, a wrestler (with 53.35% of votes), and Parker Woods, a basketball player (with 47.42% of votes) were selected from 27,382 votes cast. The Repository
- ➤ Golf trailblazer Renee Powell received the 2026 Award of Merit from the National Golf Course Owners Association.
