ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A log home in Harrison Township at (58 Arrow Road SW) was destroyed by fire on Jan. 19 when wood stove ashes ignited the porch amid below-zero conditions, leaving the Turkovich family with a total loss and prompting a GoFundMe fundraiser while no injuries were reported. The Repository
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ ABCD Inc. will host two meet-and-greet events with its new chief executive officer Tomier Davenport on Feb. 12. The events run from 11 a.m. to noon and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. — both at The Will Dent Center for Economic and Community Development on Mahoning Road NE. The Repository
- ➤ More than 470 GameStop stores will close this month nationwide; two of those closures occur in Canton + outlets in Chardon, Cleveland Heights, Fairview Park and Lakewood. WKYC
- ➤ Akron-Canton Airport recorded 938,814 passengers last year, its highest count since 2017 and a 23.5% increase over 2024. - ➤ Malone University is hosting its Spring Speaker Series from January through May at the Johnson Center, featuring speakers on topics like immigration, adaptive leadership, faith and family. - ➤ Cy Sulak, a 70-year-old guitarist in Northeast Ohio found relief from painful Dupuytren's contracture by using low-dose radiation therapy at Cleveland Clinic last year and now performs at local venues weekly. - ➤ Multiple high school athletic leagues in the Greater Akron area will realign starting the 2026-27 school year as teams shift among conferences and a new Portage County league forms in 2027. The Principals Athletic Conference, now including Canton South and Coventry, will see additional changes when school begins in August. The Repository
- ➤ Tuesday, Jan. 20, Canton South High School hired Badre Bardawil as its new head football coach, replacing Matt Dennison after his move to GlenOak High. Bardawil brings 26 years of coaching experience from Massillon + McKinley and led St. Thomas Aquinas to a 9-3 season. The Repository
