COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lake Township is advancing three projects: a 1.5-mile trail from the school (Lake Middle/High) to Hartville Memorial Park starting this summer and finishing by year end, six pickleball courts at the community park, and a road garage expansion finishing in spring. Trustee Sue Grabowski plans to update the township website.  The Repository
  • On Jan. 10, the McCollum family partnered with Goodr to host a pop-up grocery market at Oakwood Middle School (Plain Twp), offering free groceries to 500 local families. The event supplied fresh produce, meat, eggs, and essential items for families facing food insecurity.  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Aldi will add more than 180 stores nationwide this year while continuing to serve Ohio residents with 175 existing locations, including two in Canton. The discount grocer also plans to launch an e-commerce site and open new stores in Maine and Colorado in 2026.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jan.12, Canton City Schools met with parents to discuss budget cuts including school consolidations, layoffs and moving Summit Arts Academy to Crenshaw; meetings (Jan. 13 to Jan. 22) are set as officials address a $7 million shortfall that may force a voter levy in November (if funding drops).  The Repository

  • Stark Flavor’s 2026 Stark County Coffee Crawl spotlights 14 local coffee shops—including newcomers The Exchange and Yoga Bar Green.
